Mary Isabel McDaniels, 96, passed away peacefully Saturday (May 6, 2017) at the Hornell Gardens Nursing Home where she has resided since July of 2010. Prior to coming to the Hornell Gardens, Mary resided in Jacksonville Florida with her son Patrick, prior to Jacksonville, Mary resided on Ontario St. in Hornell for over 50 years.

Mary was born to Benjamin and Isabel Russell Jankowski on April 20, 1921 in Susquehanna Pa.. The Jankowski family moved to Hornell in 1928 when Mary entered Lincoln Elementary School later graduating from Hornell High School in 1940. On July 5, 1942 she married Loren (Blackie) McDaniels at the Spencer Methodist Church. Loren predeceased her in May of 1993 after 50 years of Marriage.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by 3 brothers; William Jankowski, Benjamin Jankowski Jr. and Charles Jankowski and 1 sister Margaret Jankowski Pfutner.

She is survived by 1 daughter; Mary Catherine McDaniels of Hornell, 2 sons; Michael (Kathleen) McDaniels of Machias, NY and Patrick (Linda) McDaniels of Jacksonville, Florida, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Mary is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In 1953, she started working for the former Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Bath, NY, where she was employed until her retirement in 1995. Mary enjoyed her time with family and friends. She loved reading and usually read at least one book per day. She also enjoyed Country Music.

Honoring Mary’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Friday (May 12, 2017) at 10AM at the Bender – Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St. Hornell, NY 14843, Father Peter Anglaaere officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fremont, NY

In lieu of flowers friends may make memorial contributions to: the Hornell Public Library, 64 Genesee St. Hornell, NY 14843.
